I am trying to adapt a code I found on stackoverflow to create a voronoi cell with finite boundaries. I found the code below on https://stackoverflow.com/a/20678647/2443944 however my problem is that whilst the voronoi cells do not go off to infinity at the boundaries, they are still too far away. Even with a radius = 0, the ridge vertices are far too away. I ideally want the boundary voronoi vertices to be spaced around the same amount as the rest of the voronoi cells in the centre i.e. I want the sizes of the voronoi cells at the boundaries to be similar to the ones in the centre.

I guess you could achieve that by clipping your result by the convex hull of your points. To do that I would probably use the
shapely
module. Given the SO post you linked I assume you are using thevoronoi_finite_polygons_2d
function written in the post. So i think this could do the job:More generally speaking (i.e without using
voronoi_finite_polygons_2d
but using directly the output ofVoronoi
if it fits my need), i would do :Minus the small buffer on the convex hull, the result should look the same:
Or if you want a result which is slightly less "raw" on the exterior you can try to play with the buffer method (and its
resolution
/join_style
/cap_style
properties) of your points (and/or the buffer of the convex hull):And get something like (you can achieve better..!) :
Expanding on the helpful answer above from mgc, and again using
voronoi_finite_polygons_2d
from https://stackoverflow.com/a/43023639/855617, here is a solution for clipping your Voronoi tesselation to an arbitrary shape (here from a binary mask). The only additional work here is making a Polygon from your mask. I'm sure there are other (and probably better) ways of polygonizing a mask like this, but this worked for my purposes.
